Young Researchers Conference and Workshop

The Young Researchers Conference and Workshop, organized by the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Forum, BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus, served as an interdisciplinary academic platform for scholars in the humanities and social sciences. Held over three days from 22nd to 24th January 2025, the event provided an opportunity for early-career researchers to engage with experts, present their research, and gain valuable insights into academic writing and publication processes. The activities for all three days are as follows:

Day 1: Interactive Q&A Session and Paper Presentations
The inaugural session featured an interactive question-and-answer discussion with a distinguished panel of research experts representing diverse academic disciplines. This session facilitated discourse on contemporary research challenges, emerging trends, and best practices in scholarly inquiry. A mentorship session was followed after the interactive Q&A session where participants were assigned to mentorship groups under the guidance of Professor Nitin Upadhay, who led an interactive session to align the workshop objectives with participants’ academic aspirations. The first day concluded with paper presentations, where researchersshowcased their research findings and received constructive critiques from the judges and peers.

Day 2: Paper Presentations
The second day was dedicated to a series of research paper presentations. Scholars from various institutions presented their work, engaging in discussions that critically examined research methodologies, theoretical frameworks, and empirical findings. The session provided a constructive space for knowledge exchange, enabling participants to refine their work based on expert feedback and peer engagement.

Day 3: Research Paper Writing Workshop
The final day of the event comprised an intensive workshop led by Professor Nitin Upadhay, focusing on the structural and conceptual aspects of academic writing. The session covered key components of a research paper, including the introduction, abstract and adherence to academic publication standards. Special emphasis was placed on the principles of originality, novelty, and non-obviousness—critical elements that define high-impact scholarly contributions. Participants also gained insights into effective research dissemination and strategies for publishing in reputed journals.

A total of 08 M.Com Part-II students (01 male, 07 females) presented their Research Papers and 03 Teaching Faculty, Asst. Prof. Edrea Picardo, Asst. Prof. Swati Bhat and Asst. Prof. Lizzette D’Costa participated in the Research Workshop.

Expected outcome of the activity
The event will provide a platform for early-career researchers to engage with experts, gain constructive feedback on their work, and refine their academic writing skills. Attendees can look forward to an interactive environment where they will learn about contemporary research trends, explore effective methodologies, and receive guidance on publishing in reputable journals.
