On September 25, 2024, the Reader’s Club of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, successfully organized an innovative Writing Competition titled “Picture Fusion: Weaving Stories Through Visuals.” The event was held in Classroom F-104 from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM and saw the participation of 17 students (09 male, 08 female), who enthusiastically showcased their creativity and storytelling abilities by crafting narratives inspired by various images. Judged by Dr. Rodney D’Silva, Asst. Prof. Zakiya M. Tahir, and Asst. Prof. Kalpana Parab, the competition served as a unique platform for students to translate ideas into compelling stories through visuals.
The Winners of the Competition:
1st Place: Ginessa Pinto (FY BCom, Div B)
2nd Place: Ruby Mahato (TY BCom, Div B)
3rd Place: Sheel Anilkumar Neve (FY BCom, Div B)
The awards were presented during a combined valedictory function held on October 17, 2024 at the College Quadrangle, where the Readers Club and Hindi Department, which held separate competitions, celebrated the participants’ achievements together. Asst. Prof. Ciana Fernandes, in-charge of the Readers Club, warmly welcomed the Officiating Principal, Prof. Sanjay P. Sawant Dessai, Vice-Principal (Academics) Dr. Edwin Baretto, Vice-Principal (Administration) Dr. Shami Pai to the valedictory function. The vote of thanks was proposed by Asst. Prof. Chaya Velip. This collaboration underscored the commitment of both departments to fostering creativity and encouraging writing talent within the college community.
Expected Outcome of the Activity
The activity helped students enhance their writing skills by encouraging them to craft narratives that connected visual elements with their ideas, thereby improving their ability to convey complex concepts effectively. Additionally, engaging in creative storytelling built their confidence and self-esteem, enabling them to express thoughts more freely and reducing any apprehension about sharing their work.
