Workshops at “INSPIRUS 2024”

The 8th edition of “INSPIRUS 2024” was organized by the Student Council of Computer Engineering (C-Codes) in association with the Computer Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda. This two-day technical event, “DBCE TEKFEST,” featured 2 impactful workshops held on 11th October 2024, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, in Seminar Hall II.

Resource persons for these workshops included Mrs. Sindhu Prabhudesai Nayak, Deputy Director, Department of Education, and Dr. Kavita S. Asnani, Associate Professor at the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa. The sessions saw active participation from three faculty members – Asst. Prof. Annette Santimano, Asst. Prof. Sweta P. Shet Verenkar, and Asst. Prof. Deepti D. Kulkarni and three students – Shaina Kamat (SY BVoc.(ST)), Showil Rebello (SY BVoc.(ST)), and Simran Ghadi (FY BVoc.(ST)) from VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics.

The first session, titled “Building India’s Future – Shaping the Future in our Classrooms,” was led by Mrs. Sindhu Prabhudesai Nayak. She began by discussing the lives of inspiring personalities like Mrs. Sudha Murty and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, emphasizing their positive influence. Mrs. Nayak encouraged participants to watch the Hindi movie “12th Fail” to understand its moral lessons. Using a series of stories, she highlighted essential qualities for teachers, such as instilling values in students, resilience, adaptability, digital literacy, mental health awareness, and personal care, as well as career exploration in sports.

The second session, titled “Bridging Education and Innovation – The Value of Technical Education,” was conducted by Dr. Kavita S. Asnani. Dr. Asnani’s interactive session focused on the key objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing experiential learning, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary study. She explained how technical education aligns with NEP goals by integrating classroom knowledge with real-world skills, preparing students for the fast-evolving job market. Additionally, Dr. Asnani highlighted the NEP’s flexible and vocational training options, making technical education key to building a skilled workforce. Dr. Asnani mentioned the challenges in providing credits to students for MOOCs courses on Swayam and other portals considering the required mapping of course to an appropriate MOOC.

Expected Outcome of the Activity

Exploring and emphasizing the importance of the multidisciplinary approach of NEP and implementing an approach to learning by stories and experiences for the students.
