The NSS Unit of the College organized a session on ‘Don’t Just Recycle…Goonj It’ on 4th October 2023 in the smart classroom. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Himanshu Kulkarni, Member, Team Goonj. The session began with the welcome address delivered by Vice Principal Dr. Edwin Barreto.
The session commenced by providing a brief introduction to Goonj. It was explained that Goonj focuses on addressing issues related to rural development, humanitarian aid, and community building. The aim of Goonj is to build an equitable relationship of strength, sustenance, and dignity between the cities and villages, using under-utilized urban material as a tool to trigger development with dignity across the country.
The Resource Person focused on some of the initiatives of Goonj, such as:
Cloth for Work: In this initiative, individuals contribute used clothing in exchange for essential commodities or services.
Rahat (Relief) Kits: Goonj is actively involved in providing relief during natural disasters and emergencies.
School to School: This initiative channels surplus materials and resources from urban schools to those in rural areas.
Green by Goonj: Goonj is involved in environmental initiatives, promoting the concept of responsible consumption and waste management.
The program was compered by Ms. Abigayle Rodrigues, a student from SY B.Com, and the Vote of Thanks was proposed by Sahil Naik, a student from TY B.Com. 84 students participated in the session, and the activity was coordinated by Mr. Sanjay Velip, NSS PO Incharge, Ms. Ashwina Volvoikar, NSS PO, and Ms. Akshada Gaonkar, NSS PO.
