Workshop at Goa State Innovation Council

The Department of Commerce and Management and the Training, Internship and Placement Cell (TIP Cell) attended a workshop at Goa State Innovation Council (GSIC), Fatorda for the students of SY B.Com as an activity in the course New Venture Planning on 11th October 2023. 33 students participated in the workshop. The students were accompanied by Ms. Sheryl Sanches, Asst. Prof in Commerce & Management.

The workshop consisted of three sessions. The first session began at 9:00 am. The Resource Person Mr Siddhant Panjiker, Lab Mentor gave an introductory session about the Goa State Innovation Council. The students were given examples of innovative products, such as LED lights on the wicket in a cricket match. Mr. Siddhant discussed about the Virtual Innovation Register, where students can brainstorm ideas with their mentor in the prototype lab. The students were also informed about the scheme for patent filing under VIR and about their book toolkit on Intellectual Property Rights available on the Amazon App.

In the second session, the students were given an overview about FiiRE (Forum for Innovation, Incubation, Research and Entrepreneurship). Mr Kirran Mehta, Investor Manager explained that there are four types of entrepreneurs – the dreamers, the real me, all talk no walk and the serial entrepreneur. He emphasized about the traits that entrepreneurs should possess such as, one should be passionate, risk-taker, open-minded, cooperative, and hardworking. The students were given various examples of different startup portfolios and also discussed the Nidhi Entre Scheme. After the session, the students were taken on a tour to show the FiiRE facilities and infrastructure such as the rental workspaces and cabins. The students were informed that the Goa News Hub channel also operates there.

Post lunch the session was on Robotics and 3D printers.  Mr Shivraj Naik, Lab Mentor began the session by discussing about the basics of robotics such as the difference between a robot and robotics, various applications of robots in different fields and also showed videos of modular robots from beginner to advanced levels. The various components of a robot, initial warnings and precautions for using robots was discussed. The students were then showed the working and usage of the various types of 3D printers in the prototyping lab. The students were given 3D pens and were asked to create 3D models. Later, the students had a hands on workshop on creating a robot. The students enthusiastically participated in the workshop. Ms.  Bhoviya Dharennavar of SY B.Com A proposed the Vote of Thanks.
