Women’s Day Celebration

The Women’s Cell in association with the NDLI Club organized a virtual programme for the staff and the students of the College on International Women’s Day.   The Chief Guest for the session was Ms. Deepali Naik, Director, Women & Child Development. The theme of the event was ‘Online Safety for Women’.

Prof. Dr. Prita D. Mallya, Principal of the College welcomed the Chief Guest and the participants.  The Chief Guest of the programme, Ms. Deepali Naik then shared her thoughts on the occasion.

The Convenor, Ms. Manasi Rege and the student members, namely Ms. Dnyanada Prabhudessai and Ms. Mruga Naik of the NDLI Club made a wonderful video on ‘Women of Substance’ that displayed the lead taken by women in different professions and have left a mark in their respective fields.  This video was released by the Chief Guest, in which she has also been featured.

The video on ‘Online Safety for Women’ by an NGO named BODHINI was also played for the participants to create awareness amongst all women about the possible dangers of technologies and also the precautionary measures to be taken.  Ms. Gautami Karmalkar, Student member of the Women’s Cell spoke on the same.

Ms. Meher Rodrigues, Asst. Professor in Mathematics, the host for the programme briefed the participants about the offline activities conducted by the Women’s Cell at Seraulim Village Panchayat.  The NDLI club then presented a virtual book exhibition that showed a repository of books, journal, articles, etc. on women.

A link to an online quiz on “Role Models around the Globe” prepared by Ms. Megha Mohan, Asst Prof in Computer Science, was shared on the occasion.

The Vice-Principal, Dr. Rodney D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks

65 participants attended. Masks were distributed to the staff members of the College and the student members of the Women’s Cell on the occasion to promote the budding women entrepreneur.

  1. b) Outreach Activity at Seraulim Village Panchayat:

The Women’s Cell of the College also organised an outreach activity at Seraulim Village Panchayat on the same day from 9:45 am -11:15 am for the women of the village.  The activity began with a welcome address by the Convenor of the Women’s Cell, Dr. Sheetal Arondekar.  She briefed the women about the programme for the day, the availability of entrepreneurial schemes for women and also created an awareness of the courses offered by the college.

The students presented a short skit on the topic “Online Safety for Women”. Ms. Megha Mohan, member of Women’s Cell then briefed the audience on the effects of using mobile phones and also about the cyber crime cell that exists for sorting out crimes taking place online.

Ms. Trisha Vadil, Asst. Professor in Commerce, then explained about the importance of using eco-friendly sanitary pads and the harmful effects that the other pads leave on the environment and the health of the user.  The members of the Women’s Cell sponsored sanitary pads for the women and also promoted the business of the Self-Help-Group that manufactured these eco-friendly sanitary pads.

The Gender Champ of the Women’s Cell, Ms. Senelda Lopes proposed the vote of thanks.

47 people, including 3 Faculty members, 7 students, 2 Panchayat members and 35 women villagers, attended the activity.
