Webinar on ‘Kitchen Gardening’

Vasundhara (Green Club of the College) organised a webinar on “Kitchen Gardening” on 24th November 2020 from 12:00to 1:00 p.m. The resource person for the webinar was Ms. Rashmi Sadhale, a practicing architect specialized in Ecology and Biodiversity. Ms. Sadhle is also practicing organic kitchen gardening 2farming both at the farm level as well as kitchen garden levels incorporating various techniques and experimenting with new ideas. The webinar received 67 registrations while around 65 participants attended.

Assistant Professor Ms. Stesa Elsie Pereira was the compere for the webinar. Principal Dr. Prita D. Mallya welcomed the virtual gathering and gave a brief overview of the webinar. Assistant Professor Ms. Ashwini Devari introduced the resource person Ms. Rashmi Sadhale. Ms. Sadhale eloquently covered the theme for the webinar. She started by giving a brief overview of how gardening evolved over time. She proceeded to explain the 5 S involved in the process of cultivation. The resource person provided a detailed explanation about soil preparation and conservation using different methods of composting. Ms. Sadhale had a detailed discussion with respect to the seasons conducive to the plantation process. She effectively tackled the issue of the space dimension with respect to urban gardens and open cultivation. She concluded the session by placing emphasis on seed requirements and symbiosis to facilitate healthy kitchen gardens.

Assistant Professor Ms. Meher Rodrigues conducted the question and answer session where the Resource Person effectively addressed the questions of the participants. The webinar ended with Assistant Professor Ms. Ashwini Devari proposing the vote of thanks. The participants were asked to fill the feedback form, after which they promptly received e-certificates.
