VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics awarded ‘A’ grade by NAAC

VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics has been awarded ‘A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru. The College secured a score of 3.03 (out of a maximum possible 4) on a 7- point scale. The College now joins the 64 colleges across India to be accredited in the fourth cycle.

The NAAC Peer Team comprising Dr. Murlidhar Chandekar, Dr. Venkata Krishna Parimala and Dr. Indrila Guha visited the College on November 25th and 26th, 2021.

NAAC rates colleges on 34 key indicators across 7 broad criteria. Some of the key indicators on which the College scored the highest are academic flexibility, planning and implementation of the curriculum, student enrolment, catering to students’ diverse needs, teacher profile and quality, innovation ecosystem, number of doctoral students registered at the College research centers, extension activities carried out and student participation in these extension activities, collaboration through MOUs, physical and IT infrastructure, student progression to higher education, student participation and performance in sports and cultural activities, strategy development and deployment.

In its report, the Peer Team congratulated the College for framing programme and course outcomes, conducting bridge courses for students, organizing add-on certificate courses, efforts at gender sensitization, setting up an incubation centre and the active participation of students in extension and outreach activities. The Team noted the availability of adequate infrastructure for curricular and extra-curricular activities, and recognized the contribution of alumni towards financial assistance to needy students, assistance in organizing activities and participation as guest faculty. The Team took note of the manner in which the Management of the College is committed to the cause of higher education and promotion of values among all stakeholders. The members also appreciated the College for the efforts taken at all-round development of students. This practice is followed across all the departments and the good academic discipline maintained by the College administration was appreciated.

The Peer Team’s recommendations for the College include strengthening the Incubation Centre by applying to DST, Govt. of India or Niti Aayog for funding and development of a research culture in the College.
