Training at Fire Department

The Department of Computer Science in association with the Dept. of Fire and Emergency Services St. Inez, Panaji conducted a 3-day Training Program for BCA and B.Voc. students on1st, 2nd and 4th November, 2019 from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Government of Goa, St. Inez Panaji. Mr. Bhiku Bhave was the faculty incharge of the activity. This Training program is a part of curriculum for all BCA and BVoc students who have enrolled for Role of Junior Software Developer course.

Day 1:

This session started with the concept of Chemistry of Combustion, basic fire safety and first aid. In this session students were told about the triangle of fire, different types of fire and how to extinguish the fire. In the second session, there was demonstration and practice in handling fire extinguishers.

Day 2:

This session began with an introduction of basic life support and CPR in the morning. Later, students were taught how to investigate casualties using AVPU, SAMPLE and DCABTLS techniques. Students also had a practice session on how to give CPR and 30:2 cycle. In the second session they learnt the procedure of conducting evacuation drills and also had a demonstration of the same.

Day 3:

The third day comprised only practical sessions. Students practiced how to tie different knots and learned their usage. Students also learned how to use stretchers. The second session gave information about the fire tender vehicle. Students were also informed about maintenance of different equipment used. Students also acquired knowledge on handling LPG leakages and fire.

All the sessions were very interactive and students participated actively. The student feedback was very positive and they were of the opinion that such sessions should be conducted in the College for faculty members, parents and students as well. They also suggested that fire audit and maintenances should be conducted by the institution periodically.
