Spectra 2016

The Department of Computer Science (BCA) organized a 2 days State Level IT event Spectra2016. The Magic of ITtude, Spectra 2016, began with Inaugural ceremony in the Ganesh Daivajna Auditorium on 8th Jan 2016 at 9:30am, the day 1 of the event.

IMG_1957The Shub-lamp, which marks the beginning, was lighted-up by the Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Prita D. Mallya, Vice-principal, Dr. Sanjay Desai, Event Coordinator, Mr. Sumit Kumar, Student Co-ordinators, Mr. Swaraj Pati & Mr.Pranav Korde along with representatives of participating colleges. The principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Prita D. Mallya  addressed the participants and stressed that such events provides platform to the students to test their abilities and evaluate what they have learnt in the classrooms and outside it. A brief outline of the happenings of two days was outlined by Mr. Swaraj Pati.

IMG_9114The first onstage event was “WE ARE…” in which all the teams showcased their team strength through a short video. Event was judged by Mr. Edwin Baretto and Dr. Rodney D’Silva. Punch IT – The next onstage event, where participating teams innovated a punchline for the given IT based product. Event was judged by Mrs. Annette Santimano and Dr. Rodney D’Silva. The off stage event was techArt in which participants deisgned the t-shirts on the theme “Android”. The event was judged by Mrs. Maithili Naik. The students were given a task of designing a website for “Goa as a health & medical tourism destination” in the event webkraft, an online event and participants tested their PC assembling ability in the event Build-It.

Talk-to-win, “Tick-Talk” event, was an onstage event where the participating teams had to present their creative thinking on the topics given to them on the spot before the judges Mrs. Annette Santimano & Mr. Anil Colaco. Crozzle – The brain basher was the off-stage event wherein 9 teams who scratched their heads to solve the word puzzle. During post lunch session, we had onstage Quiz “IT Quest Spectrum”, which was steered by Quiz Master Mr. Sameer Kapadi and had series of brainstorming rounds for the 8 participating teams. At the offstage venue, wonders were created from the E-Waste by 6 participating teams in the event-“second life”. The fully working models were created from E-waste and were judged by Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari.

IMG_9053There were 8 teams who were desperately looking out for the hidden treasure for which they had to perform a task at every location to find clues to the next location in the mysterious event “The Myst”, an off-stage event and on the other hand, 9 participating teams were busy in debugging the programs by applying their debugging skills.

After applying their creativity, team-work, programming skills and logical skills on day 1, they began with the war of words “Shabd-Samar” on day 2, where participating teams has to contradict their own views on the given topic at the ring of the bell. The best 2 teams qualified for the final rounds where the clash between the 2 teams was on the topic “Inter Collegiate Festivals deviate students from Academics”.  Mr. Sarvadnya  Sambari And Ms. Siddhi Bale were the judges for this event.

To test the programming skills, Spectra2016 had Code-X, an offstage event, where participating teams showcased their academics talent. Participants also tested their creative, and imaginative skills blended software skills in the online event Digitoon, and presented their views in the form of cartoons.

The most acclaimed event was “Slow-shutter”, an offstage event judged by Mr. Marlon Noronha, where participants showcased their ability of creativity and handling of shutter speed. Photographers created awesome and breath-taking images during the event. Another event in the same category was “Snapshot” wherein participants captured the best moments.

During the onstage event “Abhivyakti”, participants presented the paper on the latest IT Topics which was judged by Mrs. Sangeeta Jadhav and Ms. Siddhi Bale. This event was followed by another similar event wherein participants put forth new pieces of software that would  make our lives easier and better, helping us to focus on the more important and valuable things. These innovations were judged by Ms. Nagratna Naik and Ms. Siddhi Bale in the event “ITech-idea”.

Winner -Rosary CollegeDirector’s Take and Syncsense were the events of day 2, where participants tried their hand and skills to shoot video and editing it to match and blend audio and video together. These events were judged by Mr. Prasad Shinkre.

Participants also got opportunity to test their database knowledge in the event, DB-Inspector in the online event category. During both the days teams participated in the blogging competition of Spectra2016 and were judged on day 2 by Ms. Nagratna Naik during lunch break. Post lunch, during the last competition of Spectra2016 participants showcased their marketing skills of the IT product.

Participants clashed with each other and gave tough fight during both the days in the gaming events Counter Strike 1.6 and NFS (MW).

Runner Up - Don Bosco CollegeDuring the Valedictory Ceremony, Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Prita D. Mallya addressed the participants followed by a brief Report of entire 2 days activities by Mrs. Namita Neurenkar. The Chief Guest for the evening, Mr. Balkrishna Kamat Director and Co-founder of Animation Studio was introduced by Mrs. Ekta Agarwal. The Chief Guest during his keynote address, emphasized that organizing such events would help students indentify their potentials in different area and highlighted on the need for professional in the field of Animation and Graphic Design.

During the prize distribution ceremony, the winners and runners-up of all the individual events and Teams were given certificates and trophies. The overall winner for Spectra2016 was team CYBERKNIGHTS from Rosary College, Navelim and the runners-up was team TECHNOKRATS from Don Bosco College, Panjim.

IMG_9364At last, the Vote of Thanks was proposed by Spectra2016 Coordinator, Mr. Sumit Kumar. In all, the Two days of IT Fest,  Magic of ITTude “ SPECTRA 2016”, with its onstage, offstage, and online events  displayed the spectrum of talents, creativity and team spirit in our participants and showcased confidence and sense of responsibility in Team Spectra2016. We at Damodar College believe in holistic development of every student, so appropriate emphasis is given upon all logical and analytical aspects. The main purpose behind having spectra is not only to bringing the talent to fore but also developing management, organizational and competitive capabilities in students.
