Shree Damodar Chavath Bazar

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), along with the Department of Commerce and the Department of Management Studies of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, in collaboration with Mahila Mandal, Margao, and Amhi Udhyogini Pratishtan, organized the ‘Shree Damodar Chavath Bazaar’ on 30th August, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Hall No.1, 5th Floor, Central Block of the college.

As part of an outreach program, this event aimed to provide a platform for Self Help Groups (SHGs) and students of the college to showcase their entrepreneurial skills. A total of 58 stalls were set up, comprising 48 by SHGs and 10 by students, offering a diverse array of products, ranging from eatables, delicious sweets, jewellery, plant-based perfumes, embroidery, organic products, clothing, and decoration items.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by the compere, Ms. Dhriti Bene of SY B.Com, Div B, who greeted the participants and visitors to the ‘Shree Damodar Chavath Bazaar.’ The inaugural ceremony included a ribbon-cutting, followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Chief Guest, Shri Narendra Sawaikar, along with the dignitaries present: Ms. Reena Palondicar, President of Mahila Mandal, Margao; Ms. Sonal Joshi, Core Member of Aamhi Udyogini Pratishtan; Ms. Deepali Naik, Project Director – DRDA South; Ms. Lina Sadekar, IQAC Coordinator of the College; Ms. Shami Pai, B.Com Coordinator and Vice Principal (Administration); Mr. Edwin Barretto, HoD – Commerce and Vice Principal (Academics); and Dr. Sanjay P. Sawant Dessai, Officiating Principal.

Shri Narendra Sawaikar, Chairman of Goa Bagayatdar Bazar, addressed the gathering and praised the enthusiasm of all participants. Officiating Principal, Dr. Sanjay P. Sawant Dessai, expressed his gratitude to the participants for showcasing a wide range of products and conveyed his best wishes for the success of the event.

The bazaar was open to the general public, as well as staff and students of the college, and received an enthusiastic response. The faculty in-charge of the event were Dr. Lina Sadekar, Dr. Edwin Barretto, Dr. Sonya Angle and Ms. Snehal Alve, HoD Management Studies.

Expected Outcome of the activity:

The Shree Damodar Chavath Bazaar includes the promotion of entrepreneurial skills among 48 SHGs and 10 student groups, equipping them with practical experience in sales and marketing. It empowered women and youth, fostering financial independence and encouraging small-scale businesses. Strengthening community bonds through collaboration with local organizations, the event also provided students with valuable real-world experience in managing a marketplace.
