Session on Measuring and Mapping Programme Outcomes and Course Outcomes

The IQAC and FDP Cell organized an awareness session on “Measuring and Mapping Program Outcomes (POs) and Course Outcomes (COs)” on 15th September 2023 from 12.15 pm to 1.15 pm in room no F-103. The primary aim of this session was to provide guidance to the newly appointed teaching faculty of Shree Damodar College on crafting course outcomes for their respective courses and to familiarize them with the measurement and mapping of POs, Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs), and COs.The Resource Persons for the session were: Ms. Pooja Shanbhag, Asst. Professor in Commerce and Mr. Andre Pacheco, Asst. Professor in Computer Science.

Ms. Pooja Shanbhag, Convenor of FDP Cell and member of Criterion 2 commenced the session by welcoming all the participants and introducing the concept of OBE. She emphasized OBE’s student-centered approach, highlighting the importance of defining learning outcomes from the outset. Ms. Shanbhag explained the distinctions between POs, COs, and displayed the previously prepared program outcomes, program-specific outcomes, and program objectives according to NAAC requirements. In addition, she explained the significance of developing clear and measurable learning outcomes for different courses and programs. She also shared some of her course outcomes of the courses/ subjects taught by her. Ms. Shanbhag guided the faculty on crafting effective course outcomes and learning outcomes, incorporating Bloom’s Taxonomy. She also discussed innovative pedagogies for assessing and evaluating these learning outcomes.

In the second part of the session, Mr. Andre Pacheco elucidated various mapping matrices that illustrate the correlation between COs and POs, as well as COs and PSOs. He demonstrated the process of defining, assessing, and aligning POs and COs. Mr. Pacheco highlighted a list of assessment methods and tools that can enhance the learning experience and improve overall student performance. He concluded that mapping allows educators to track the progression of learning outcomes from courses to the overall program. Faculty members had the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications. The session successfully provided faculty members with a clearer understanding of the application of OBE principles in their respective courses. It equipped them with strategies to enhance the quality of education through outcomes-focused approaches.
