Session on “Bridging the Generation Gap: Post Pandemic Concern” For Parents

The Student Welfare Cell in association with the PTA of the College organized a Parent Teachers meet and a session on “Bridging the Generation Gap: Post Pandemic Concern” for the parents and teachers on 4th February 2023 at 11.30 am.

Dr. Rodney D’Silva, Convenor of PTA committee welcomed the gathering and addressed the Parents. Vice Principal Dr. Edwin Barreto gave an overview of the College activities, library resources and facilities available for the students and informed about the various events organized by the College. Faculties and Parents were asked to introduce themselves for knowing each other. Dr. Rodney D’Silva explained the importance of PTA and asked the parents to volunteer to be executive members of the PTA committee.

After the meet, the session began. Firstly, Dr. Shami Pai, Convenor of Students Welfare Cell introduced the Resource Person Dr. Aldina Braganza, Associate Professor in Psychology from Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem Goa.

Dr. Aldina said that every batch of Students have new challenges and the struggle of the parents and teachers is how to deal with it. She requested the parents to take note of the anxiety issues, sleeping pattern, addiction to phones, eating habits etc. of their children. She laid emphasis on the different challenges faced by adolescents such as psychological abuse, substance addiction, relationship stress and technological stress.

She encouraged parents to have open communication with their children, give career guidance, impart cultural and family values, be active listeners and also give them reality check. She also advised them to discuss the challenges and the struggles faced by the parents to give them better life and tell them about the workplace stress, family issues and the problems faced by you so that they are exposed to real life and not fantasies. She informed that parents should spend enough time with their children and also know their friends.

The various questions raised by parents were answered by Dr Aldina. The session was very fruitful and interesting.  Dr. Rodney proposed the Vote of Thanks. The session ended at 1.10 pm.
