The Student Welfare Cell in collaboration with the OBC Cell, Minority Cell and SC/ST Cell organised a Scholarship Mela 2.0 for the students of the College on 7th October 2023. Ms. Nidhi, student member welcomed the audience and the Convenor of the Student Welfare Cell, Dr. Shami Pai, Convenor of OBC Cell and Minority Cell, Ms. Pretty Pereira and the Convenor of the SC/ST Cell, Mr. Sanjay Velip. The objective of the Scholarship Mela 2.0 was to create awareness about the various scholarships available at the College, State and National Level.
Dr. Shami Pai provided an overview of the diverse schemes through which students can access scholarships from various Central and State Government portals. She also highlighted the Damodar Golden Jubilee Scholarship, as well as Damodar College Golden Jubilee Scholarships (Talent and Upliftment), which are open to all students of the College. Ms. Pretty Pereira demonstrated the procedures and requirements for obtaining State and Central Scholarships through the Goa Online portal of the Govt of Goa. She also provided insights into scholarships available under the Bursary Scheme of the Directorate of Higher Education, Goa. Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar introduced students to the National Scholarship Portal, an initiative of the Central Government. She explained the application process for various scholarship schemes, particularly those available to academically meritorious students and students belonging to the SC/ST/OBC categories. Mr. Sanjay Velip focused on students belonging to the SC and ST categories, discussing the various fee waiver schemes available to them. Ms. Sweta Verenkar and Ms. Sneha Prabhudessai highlighted the scholarships offered by private organizations like Reliance Foundation, Blue Cross Labs, Global Foundation, and more, which are available to undergraduate and postgraduate students across India.
The session proved to be highly informative. 46 students from various programmes actively participated in Scholarship Mela 2.0. The session concluded at 1.00 pm, with Ms. Safaa, a student member of the Student Welfare Cell, proposing the Vote of Thanks. Ms. Edrea Picardo from the PG Department was also present during Scholarship Mela 2.0.
