Preparation of a Business Plan

The Department of Commerce organized a Guest Session on preparation of Business Plan for B.Com students on 11th October, 2021 in association with “E-Cell, IIC & Incubation Centre”. The session was conducted virtually through Google Meet platform from 12:15 till 1:15 p.m. and 100 students attended the same.

Mr. Samay Shetti was the Resource Person for the session. Mr Shetti is an engineer turned writer. He is an alumnus of Goa Engineering College. He has a profound experience of start-ups ecosystem having worked for Centre for Incubation and Business Acceleration (CIBA). He also worked with the Business Goa for their entrepreneur and business stories. Mr. Samay Shetti, started the webinar by making the students understand the term business and ideas. The webinar focused on how an entrepreneur can prepare his business plan before involving in any entrepreneurial activities. Mr. Samay Shetti spoke about the innovative and conventional businesses. He showed various entrepreneurial list with their innovation and stated that “If you innovate in conventional business, your business will grow”. In addition, he also stated that innovation can be in various forms such as building existing ideas, combining existing ideas, repackage/renew an old ideas, reverse engineer, including entirely creating something new.

Mr. Samay Shetti stressed on the Business Model Canvas, wherein he explained various points that would help the students and emerging entrepreneurs to prepare the business plan such as:

  • Value proposition
  • Customer segment
  • Channel
  • Customer relationships
  • Revenue stream
  • Key resources
  • Key activities
  • Key partners, and
  • Cost Structure

At the end of the session Mr. Samay Shetti shared his viewpoint towards entrepreneurship. The session ended with the question and answer session where students put forward their doubts about entrepreneurship business.
