Panel Discussion Titled ‘Practical Aspects In Auditing And Financial Reporting’

The Department of Commerce of the College organized a panel discussion for B.Com students titled ‘Practical Aspects in Auditing and Financial Reporting’ on 15th October 2022 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. The session was a part of the Accounting courses- Auditing and Financial Reporting. 72 students attended the session.

The Resource Persons for the panel discussion were: CA. Sneha Menon – Chartered Accountant and Ms. Karen Ravindra Naik – Financial Accounts Manager, Commscope.

The session was fully managed by TY B.Com students. Miss Anisha Nadkarni compered the programme and was also the moderator for the panel discussion.  The event began with a welcome address, followed by the introduction of the guest speakers by Ms. Rohini Kamat.

The moderator then gave her opening remarks, followed by the opening remarks of the Resource Persons.  CA Sneha Menon started with the basics of audit and its types. She also mentioned that when you venture into auditing one gets to know the company in entirety.  Ms. Karen Naik spoke about her work experience in companies like D-Link and ZuariAgro Chemicals Ltd in the capacity of an accountant.

CA Sneha Menon stressed on the importance of audit in corporate world, shared her experiences in conduct of bank audit, discussed the risk profile of clients, considerations on the part of the auditor when providing advice to their clients and the key differences between internal audit and statutory audit

Ms. Karen Naik exposed the students to the real process of auditing and the conduct of IT audit, interim audit and final audit.  She further explained the significance of the annual report and threw light on the concepts of segment reporting.

They also gave insights on industry expectations from youngsters who apply for jobs. They stressed on the need to add to one’s qualifications to stand out from other applicants.  Queries raised by the participants were well addressed by the Resource Persons. Mr. Alrich Fernandes proposed the Vote of Thanks.  This was the first session of the Alumni Connect Series and both Resource Persons are alumni of the College.
