OLD AGE HOME VISIT

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of the College organized a two day visit to the Institute of Public Assistance (Provedoria), Margao on August 19th and 20th, i.e. on the eve of Senior Citizens’ Day. A total of 109 B.Com NSS Volunteers, accompanied by the Programme Officers and the Principal visited the Old Age Home. The major objective of the visit to was to break the monotony for the inmates and to sensitize the students about true life and the importance of sharing and caring. The Director of Provedoria, Shri Vinayak Prabhakar Volvoikar addressed the students about the importance of taking care of the aged and also briefed them on the mission of their institute. He enlightened students about recent legislations in the matter – it has always been our moral duty to look after our elders, but it is now our legal duty as well.

The students spent time chatting with the inmates, playing games, etc. They were all touched by the plight of the old people there. The students realized that although the old people are well looked after, they are very lonely, miss their families and friends, and long for company.
