Mentoring Orientation for Mentors

The Student Welfare Cell organized a Mentoring Orientation for the teaching staff for the academic year 2024-25. The session was conducted on 12th July 2024 in the smart classroom, from 12.30 pm to 1.30 p.m. Dr. Lira M. Gama, Convenor, Student Welfare Cell, welcomed all the teachers and set the stage for the orientation. She provided the standard mentoring guidelines for the mentors, briefing on the conduct of mentoring sessions and maintenance of the records. She explained the various stages of mentoring and the importance of maintaining good relationship with the assigned mentees. She also guided the mentors on systematically handling student issues and the different approaches that can be used for the same.

Guidelines for the allocation of mentors and mentees were given to each departmental in-charge member from the committee on preparation of mentor-mentee list. Dr. Lira advised the mentors to identify the talents, skills, knowledge of instruments of their assigned mentees. The mentors were also guided on encouraging the mentees to avail the scholarships available, participation in co-curricular activities, etc.

Prof. Sanjay P. Sawant Dessai, Officiating Principal of the college, provided guidance to the mentors on handling of student attendance issues.

Towards the end of the session, Dr. Lira addressed the queries from mentors and discussed various issues such as motivating students to improve ISA scores, attend remedial classes for the mentees, buddy learning, interacting with the parents on open days. Lastly, the mentors provided positive feedback about the Orientation session. The session was organized and coordinated by faculty members, Ms. Pretty Pereira, Ms. Sweta P. Shet Verenkar, Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar, Ms. Valencia Baptista, Ms. Sneha Prabhudessai and Dr. Mamta Kane. The orientation session was attended by a total of 48 faculty members.
