The Annual Konkani Poetry Competition “Kavya Umali” was organized by the Cultural Council in association with the Readers’ Club on 29th March 2023 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm in the Smart classroom. This competition marked the revival of the event after a gap of 3 years, and it was a platform for 15 budding poets to showcase their talent in the Konkani language and contest for the Lapit Shield for the Best Konkani Poet.
The competition commenced with a warm welcome address by Vice Principal Dr. Edwin Barreto, followed by an overview of the competition by the Cultural Council Convenor, Ms. Samiksha Vengurlekar. The participants enthusiastically recited pre-existing poems, displaying their poetic expertise and creativity. The judges were our ex-students and renowned Poets, Ms. Dnyanada Prabhudessai and Ms. Mruga Naik, who had the challenging task of evaluating the performances. After much deliberation, the results were announced, and the winners were awarded medals and certificates for their outstanding performances.
Ms. Jeslina Natasha Azavedo of TY B.Com emerged as the winner, securing first place, while Ms. Dimple Tavde secured second place and Ms. Unnati Sarmalkar secured third place. Ms. Sharvari Bhatikar and Ms. Nandita Borkar were awarded the first and second consolation prizes, respectively, for their commendable performances.
The event concluded on a high note with the judges reciting their self-composed melodious poems, captivating the audience with their artistic brilliance. Principal Prof. Prita D. Mallya extended her gratitude in the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the efforts of all the participants, judges, coordinators, and organizers who made the event a grand success.
