The NCC Army, NCC Naval Wing and NSS Cell of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao, in collaboration with BNI celebrated “Kargil Vijay Diwas” on 26th July 2024 in Hall 1, from 12.00 noon to 1.30 pm. The event was graced by Captain Utpal Datta, recipient of the Nau Sena Medal (Gallantry), as the chief guest and keynote speaker. Captain Datta is a distinguished Naval helicopter pilot with extensive operational flying experience, including four years with Army Aviation and a five-year instructional tenure at the Institute of Aerospace Safety, Indian Air Force. He has actively participated in several joint services flying operations like Operation Cactus, Operation Pawan, Operation Vijay, Operation Parakram, and Operation Sagittarius.
During the event, Captain Datta shared his experiences of Operation Kargil, vividly bringing the memories of war to life through pictures he had captured. He also encouraged the cadets to serve the nation with dedication and consider joining the defense forces. The function concluded with the felicitation of RDC cadets, Cadet Aditiya Joshi (NCC Army) and Cadet Vaishnavi Borkar (NCC Navy), for their achievements.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Edwin Barreto, Vice-Principal (Academics) of the college, followed by a floral welcome to all the guests on the dais. The President of BNI, Mr. Abihijit Sawant proposed the vote of thanks. The function was compered by Cadet Shreeya Rajeeve.
The function was coordinated by Lt. Sandesh Gaonkar, NCC Army wing ANO; Sub. Lt. Pretty Pereira, NCC Naval Wing ANO, and Asst. Prof. Sanjay Velip, NSS PO. A total of 120 students attended the program.
