‘Joy of Giving’ month

The Students’ Council of the College organized ‘Joy of Giving month from 21st March 2022 to 06th May 2022 (30 instructional days), wherein the teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as the students of all programmes (B.Com/ BBA(FS)/ B.Voc(ST)/ M.Com), were encouraged to voluntarily contribute a minimum of ₹1/- per day towards a good and noble cause.

The Joy of Giving activity intended to flow from each giver, an attitude of gratitude. The objective of this activity was to give all an opportunity to show each one’s appreciation for the numerous blessings we receive on a daily basis. The essence of this endeavour was to awaken our inner good self to the less fortunate ones i.e. society. A small contribution on each one’s part would make a huge difference to unknown many.

The Divisional Representative (DR) of each class were requested to make a box titled ‘Joy of Giving’ and pass the same around in their respective class, once a day for the entire period of 30 days. At the end of each day, the DR’s responsibility was to bring the box to the respective teacher in charge to account for the daily collection. Day-wise accounting and reporting of the collection was the responsibility of each of the Students’ Council teachers in charge. Similar boxes were placed in each staffroom as well as the office for each one’s voluntary contribution. Students and staff wholeheartedly participated in this activity which undeniably aroused the spirit of charity and cognizance of each one’s blessings.

At the end of the 30 days, the Students’ Council teachers and student members, collectively counted the amount accumulated, which amounted to Rs. 31277/-.

The collection through ‘Joy of Giving’ was donated at two centres, through purchase of items that these centres were in need of. Three steel racks, total worth Rs. 16500/- were donated to Dr. Alfred Antao Home for the Aged, Chandor, Goa. A steel cupboard with safety locker, a 4 kg fire extinguisher, a Bluetooth speaker, a glue gun, and three packets of glue gun refills, total worth Rs. 14777/- were donated to Lokvishwas Pratishthan Special School, Canacona, Goa.

The two centres were extremely grateful for the kind and generous gesture of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao, Goa. The whole activity efficaciously managed to arouse the intended spirit of giving to the needy, the less fortunate ones. The activity – ‘Joy of Giving’ was indeed a great success on the part of the Students’ Council for the Academic Year 2021 – 22.
