The Women’s Cell organised a program on 9th March 2020 from 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm to celebrate International Women’s day. The program began with a Self-Defence session for the female students and staff members, conducted by Mr Ravi Das, student of SY B.Com, Trainer in Martial Arts. A total of 87 students participated in this program.
This was followed by a programme in the Smart Classroom. The programme began with a dance performance depicting Women Empowerment by a student of FY BBA(FS), Ms. Gautami Karmalkar, followed by an address by the Vice-Principal, Dr. Rodney D’Silva. Two competitions were organized. In the first one participants had to click a picture of a woman who inspires them with a brief write up on the theme and upload it on Social Media, captioned #myinspiration. Dr. Shami Pai and Dr. Lira Gama were the judges for this competition. The winners of this event were:
First place – Ms. Senalda Lopes,
Second place -Ms. Poonam Shakya
Third place – Ms. Afshan Shaikh & Tejas Shrivant
The next competition was ‘Voice it out’ -a two minute speech competition, wherein participants had to give their opinions on gender inequality. The event was judged by Dr. Vishal Chari and Ms. Snehal Alve. The winners of this event were:
First place- Ms. Chrisliza Gonsalves
Second place- Ms. Hriya Patil and
Third place- Ms. Dnyanada Prabhudessai.
Students in the audience were also asked to narrate incidents they have experienced concerning gender inequality. Ms. Senalda Lopes also recited a poem titled, ‘Still I Rise’ by Maya Angelou.
A short quiz on ‘Empowered Women’ was conducted. The very enthusiastic audience participated and made the program a lively one. The prizes were distributed by the Vice-Principal.
The Readers’ Club and Library Committee displayed over 200 books on women’s issues on this occasion.
