The Department of Physical Education and Sports organized an Inter-collegiate Raw Powerlifting Championship (Women) for the first time on September 4, 2023, in the College Multipurpose Hall. A total of 125 women participants from 22 Colleges across Goa participated in the championship.
The Inaugural ceremony commenced at 10:00 am. Dr. Edwin Barreto, Vice Principal delivered the welcome address. Dr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar and Mr. Sourabh Raikar briefed the participants about the rules of the competition. The judges for the competition were Mr. Andrew Gomes, Mr. Govind Lotlikar, Mr. Purnay Raikar, Mr. Satish Mandrekar, Mr. Shivam Mohite, Mr. Tanuj Kinolkar, Ms. Viola Rodrigues, Mr. Ashish Shirodkar, Mr. Nehal Komarpant, and Ms. Agnes Fernandes.
The tournament featured various categories, including below 47kg, up to and including 52kg, up to and including 57kg, up to and including 63kg, up to and including 69kg, up to and including 76kg, up to and including 84kg, and above 84kg.
Carmel College, Nuvem were the champions of the competition. Don Bosco College, Panjim were the 1st Runners up and Rosary College, Navelim were the 2nd Runners-up.
The ‘Strongest Woman Title’ was awarded to Ms. Swati Sandip Naik from P.E.S’s R.S.N College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, Ponda.
The Chief Guest for the Valedictory function was Mr. Vikram Verlekar, Chairman of the Sports Governing Council of VVM. Prizes were awarded to the winners by the Chief Guest. The event was coordinated by Dr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, the College Director of Physical Education and Sports, and Mr. Saurabh Raikar, Instructor in Physical Education. The Sports Council of the College, headed by Mr. Sidhivinayak Hadapad, a student of TYBCA, along with 30 other Sports Council Members, made all the arrangements for the tournament. The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Saurabh Raikar, Instructor in Physical Education.
