Industrial Visit to CIBA

The Department of Computer Science of the College organised a field trip cum industry visit for the TYBCA and SYBCA students on 29th March 2019 to CIBA, Nuvem and SmartLink, Verna at around 9.00 am. The objective behind organizing a field trip is to increase students’ knowledge and understanding of a subject and to give practical insights to the topics under study in the relevant subjects. At Smartlink, Mr Vishal Haldankar, Assistant Production Manager briefed the students about the production process and its subsidiary units– Synegra, Telesmart and Digisol. He discussed about the products manufactured by Synegra, Telesmart and the role of Digisol in marketing and selling these products. He also guided the students about the entire process of production of networking devices, from developing of small parts to assembling of the whole device, the significance of Quality control/ Quality assurance tests, process of testing, and finally packaging of the products.

The next visit was to CIBA (Centre for Incubation and Business Acceleration) as a part of Entrepreneurship Development subject for TYBCA students. The speaker for the first session was Mr. Raj Naik, Relationship Manager at CIBA where the students were briefed about the objectives and goals of the organization. He highlighted the role of incubation centres in supporting entrepreneurs and different facilities and assistance provided for startups. The speaker for the second session was Miss Deepa Chowgule, Intern at CIBA who discussed about the challenges and opportunities and skills required in entrepreneurship. She also explained the role of CIBA in providing mentoring and networking facilities, funding pattern and financial assistance for startups. She also addressed the students on the importance of 3D printing and the ease with which complex designs and prototypes were manufactured via 3D printer was also explained. The students got a chance to visit different units in CIBA where they got an opportunity to see different labs like the bio-testing lab, food processing unit, conference room etc. The students however got an insight as to how an incubation centre provides a platform for aspiring and innovative startups to make their dreams happen.

The students were accompanied by Asst. Professors Sumit Kumar, Namrata Haldankar and Pooja Shanbhag. Around 50 students attended the field trip. Overall the field trip was a fruitful and enriching experience for the students.
