‘Guide to use E-Resources: NDLI, N-List & Indiastat’

The P.G. Department of Commerce (M.Com) organized a Session on the topic ‘Guide to use E-Resources: NDLI, N-List & Indiastat’. The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Manasi D. Rege, College Librarian. The main objective of the session was to introduce students to the library’s e-resources, as well as to educate and guide them on how to use the e-resources. A total of 23 students from M.Com Part II attended the session. Co-ordinator of M.Com Programme, Asst. Prof. Seema Dharani, along with other faculty members, Asst. Prof. Twinkle Fernandes and Asst. Prof. Valencia Baptista were present. Asst. Prof. Twinkle Fernandes welcomed and introduced the Resource Person, Ma’am Manasi Rege.

Ma’am Manasi Rege covered three areas of E-Resources namely NDLI, N-List & Indiastat. With respect to Indiastat, she mentioned that it is a website that maintains a record of quantitative socio-economic data of India. She highlighted that the data is systematically categorized on the basis of sector, state and region. Through powerpoint presentation, she demonstrated the procedure to search the data and information required for academic projects and research endeavors from the Indiastat website. She also stated that Indiastat resource is a paid resource and the students have to visit the library to utilize the same.

Thereafter, she covered the second E-Resource i.e. NDLI. She mentioned that the National Digital Library platform provides students, teachers and the general public with a vast arena of information useful in the preparation of projects, research paper or enhancement of knowledge on any area of interest. She stated that NDLI was formed by MHRD on 19th June 2018 and also covered its brief history. She emphasized on the importance of having a digital library in India as it offers an easy access and a wide choice of books, journals, research papers, videos to its registered users. She also covered the various access options available for the members who are registered on the website. She also informed about the ‘Umang app’ which students can download from the play store in their mobile or to visit https://www.ndli.gov.inin order to get access.

Lastly, she covered N-List Consortium, by stating that N-List is a tool for teaching and learning. She emphasized on the fact that it is specially paid by the College in order to ensure maximum usage by students and faculty members, thus facilitating effective preparation of assignments, projects, research papers and other research related reports. She also covered the list of resources available on N-List, way of accessing and searching the required data and information.

She ended the session by showing a virtual tour of the library highlighting some important books, journals and magazines available in the library and a reading room facility. The session was very informative and provided students with a platform to make use of the resources and e-resources available in the library for their projects, assignments, dissertations and other research endeavors. The session ended at 1:00 p.m. and Ms. Darshna Chandgadkar, M.Com II (Accounting & Finance) proposed the Vote of Thanks.
