A guest session was conducted for the TY B.Com (Accounting Major II) students of all divisions on ‘Goods and Service Tax’ on Saturday, 16th February 2019. The resource person for the guest session was CA CS Siddhi Bagkar. The session began at 8.45 am.
Asst. Prof. Gajanan Haldankar introduced the resource person for the session. The session was attended by approximately 70 Accountancy students from all divisions of TY B.Com.
The resource person began the session with a brief introduction about the history of indirect taxes in the country and the evolution of Goods and Service Tax. She spoke at length about how the reformed tax structure in India will have its benefits for all organizations irrespective of their size. She discussed the various aspects of GST including Input Tax Credit, Composition Scheme, Tax Rates under GST as well as certain other issues which distinguish GST from the earlier taxes subsumed under GST. Practical aspects including computation of GST were also covered in the session. From her corporate experience, Ms. Bagkar shared her views on GST and its long term impacts on the economy. The resource person also spared some time to clarify students’ doubts with regards to GST. The session concluded at 10.15 am with a vote of thanks.
