Guest Lecture on “Mutual Fund Investment: A Beginner’s Guide”

The Department of Computer Science organized a guest lecture on the topic “Mutual Fund Investment: A Beginner’s Guide,” on 22nd February, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in classroom 201. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Sagar Bandodkar, an NISM Certified Mutual Fund distributor, Fintech Speaker, and Finance content writer. The session commenced with a warm welcome extended by Ms. Nidhi Nagvekar, a student of FY BCA, who introduced the speaker. Mr. Sagar Bandodkar then took the floor and covered various essential topics related to mutual funds. He began by defining mutual funds and subsequently elaborated on the different types, highlighting their distinct characteristics and suitability for various investment objectives. Concepts such as Net Asset Value (NAV), expense ratios, and systematic investment plans (SIPs) were thoroughly discussed to enhance participants’ understanding of mutual fund operations.

Furthermore, Mr. Bandodkar delved into the structure of mutual funds, elucidating the roles of entities like asset management companies (AMCs), trustees, and custodians in managing investors’ funds, along with insights into the taxation aspects associated with mutual fund investments. Additionally, the session featured an explanation of the Rule of 72, a financial concept used to estimate the time required for an investment to double in value based on a fixed annual rate of return. Mr. Bandodkar concluded the presentation with a discussion on strategies to accumulate wealth, including disciplined investing and long-term financial planning, aiming to provide participants with actionable insights for achieving financial goals.

The seminar culminated in an interactive quiz segment and a Q&A session. The session ended with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Riya Shinde, a student of FY BCA. The teacher in charge of the session was Ms. Vinaya Kirloskar. 37 students attended the session.
