Guest Lecture on ‘Accounting for Service Organisations’

The subject of Accounting for Service Organisations has an important component/chapter on Accounting for banking companies. With this in mind, the faculty members teaching the course – Accounting for Service Organisations – facilitated a talk by Guest faculty Mr. Suresh Parrikar, Retired banker possessing immense knowledge about the banking industry. Mr Parrikar has worked for 21 years in Syndicate Bank and retired from Bicholim Urban Cooperative bank after serving the bank as the Managing Director.

Two sessions, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, followed by 11:30 am to 12:30 pm accommodating about 77 students in total from the four divisions were conducted in Room number 216. Mr. Parrikar spoke about the various important parameters of the Profit and loss account and Balance sheet of banking companies. He highlighted the differences between the old and new formats of banking accounts proforma. The speaker also highlighted about important disclosures forming a part of the banking statements and the importance of capital adequacy ratio, trend in NPAs, etc.

With the simple use of blackboard and chalk, Mr. Parrikar at his best interacted with students, along with providing them insights on his experience in the banking sector, career opportunities and also gave advice about the reference books and other aspects of the various exams that students need to answer for entering the banking industry.
