The Department of Commerce and Management of the College in association with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE) organized a guest lecture in the subject Entrepreneurship Development for the students of SY B.Com on 1st Nov 2022. The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Shivangi Shirodkar, Project Associate for MGNCRE. The topic of the session was Rural Entrepreneurship.
The faculty in-charge, Asst. Prof Sheryl Sanches welcomed the Resource Person and the students for the session. Ms. Shirodkar began the session by giving an overview about Entrepreneurship and the benefits of entrepreneurship especially to the economy of a state or country. She then discussed the various types of rural entrepreneurship such as agro based, forest based and mineral based industries, textile industry, handicraft and so on. Ms. Shirodkar discussed the advantages and problems in rural entrepreneurship and the major types of rural entrepreneurs such as farmers, artisans, tribals, merchants and traders.
The Resource Person then explained about Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education and the support it provides to rural entrepreneurs. She explained about the Rural Entrepreneurship Development Cell (REDC) and also about One District One Product (ODOP) Scheme. She also discussed about effectuation for entrepreneurs and the principles for effectuation. The students were asked to visit the goaonline.gov.in website for further details and assistance.
90 students attended the session, which ended at 10 am.
