The Department of IT, Govt. of Goa celebrated Goa IT Day on 14th & 15th of July 2018 at INOX – Old GMC, ESG, Panjim – Goa. Mr. Sumit Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science (BCA) along with 10 Third Year BCA students participated in this 2-day event.
The key highlights were ecosystem talks from the top IT/ITes stakeholders, skilling workshops, panel discussion on the trends shaping the future of IT, and the launch of Goa IT Policy and Schemes. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Manohar Parrikar and the Minister for Revenue, IT, Labour & Employment, Shri Rohan Khaunte.
Post lunch, parallel sessions were held in 4 different auditoriums. Some of the important topics that were discussed by eminent panel of speakers included: How innovation is revolutionizing the IT industry and how the leaders are preparing for the next phase of growth; How will the increase in implementation of artificial intelligence and machine learning transform the jobs in future; How Goa can create a platform for professionals in the field of cyber security and Promoting Entrepreneurship and Skill Development, to name a few.
There were stalls and exhibitions put up by various IT startups and Software setups of Goa where we explored different opportunities they offer to undergraduate students, prospective job seekers and entrepreneurs.
On Day 2, the first session of the day was the keynote address by speakers Shri Ashank Desai, Co- Founder NASSCOM and Chairman MASTEK and Mrs. Nivruti Rai – Country Head, Intel India. Both speakers stressed that we should not miss the fourth Industrial Revolution – Industry 4.0 which is a name for the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad in his address mentioned that Goa has lot of potential to become IT State of India and lead the nation. He announced various IT setups in Goa which definitely will cater the need of people of Goa. The feedback from our participating students was really good and they benefitted tremendously from attending this event.
