FIN-SPLASH 1.0

The BBA(Financial Services) Department, under its Investors’ Hub,  organized a two-day inter-class event, Fin-Splash 1.0 on 13th and 14th March, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. A total of 14 Students Participated in this event. The event was introduced this year to select the first ever “Finance Student of the Year”.

There were a series of competitions under Fin-Splash – 1.0

Fin-Quiz: Saved by the Bell was conducted on March 13th and tested the participants’ general knowledge in the areas of Finance, Accounting, Banking and Economics. It was organized in two rounds, i.e., the qualification round and the final round. Ms. Arya Bhosale and Mr. Daniel Rodrigues tied with top points, and after a tie-breaker, Mr. Daniel Rodrigues won the first place and Ms. Arya came in second. The next two spots were taken by Ms. Shubhechsha Shet and Ms. Sarva Hede respectively.

Hammer the Box was a business plan competition. The participant had to present an innovative product or service on the theme, ‘Sustainable Development through Green Initiative’. The competition was executed in two phases – an elimination round based on the theme and the Business Plan round. The competition was judged by Mrs. Apoorva Gadre-Apte Proprietor at Shubhankar Environmental Services, Margao Goa. Ms. Rachel Fernandes secured the first place followed by Miss. V.V. Sai Vyshnavi and the third place was bagged by Miss. Arya Bhosale. The judge was delighted by the quality of the presentation and expressed her desire to support the business idea to bring it to reality.

“Battle it Out” – 14 students participated. An Elimination round was conducted on 13th March in which students had to answer 15 Multiple Choice Questions based on the world economy. After the elimination round, 10 students qualified for the Final Round which was held on 13th March 2020. In the final round the students made a presentation on the country’s financial prospects, and created an investment roadmap by studying the country’s booming sectors, FDI & FII investment opportunities. Mr. Abhijeet Sawant, founder and Managing Director at Abhiganesh Financial Planners Pvt. Ltd. judged the final round. 1st place was bagged by Ms. Sarva Hede, followed by Ms. Arya Bhosle in 2nd place and K. Venkatesh in 3rd place.

The event “Econowhiz: Elaborate the Obvious” was held in two rounds; Round One was an elimination round and Round Two was a presentation. The top 10 scorers after the qualification round were selected for the final round. On March 14th, these students were allotted an economic theory on lottery basis. The students had to prepare a PowerPoint presentation and explain the theory in simple language. The judge for the event was Mr. Rayes Efthie, Manager at IIFL Investments. The winners were: 1st Place – Ms. V.V. Sai Vyshnavi, 2nd Place – Mr. Daniel Rodrigues and 3rd Place – Ms. Rachel Fernandes.

Wealth Secrets – “MONEY: Master the Game” – an event based on Financial portfolio creation. This event was organised to test the knowledge of the students with regards to financial planning for the individual. The event had two rounds. The first round was Virtual Trading. Students were told to trade for three days. 10 students participated in the Virtual Trading. The final round was scheduled on 14th at 11.30 a.m. Participants were given a case study one hour before and were asked to present it for 5 minutes followed by question and answer round. The judge for the event was CA. Kamlesh Kanji. At the end of the event CA. Kamlesh also shared his insights on financial planning and portfolio creation. The winners for this event were First Place: Ms. V. V. Sai Vyshnavi, Second Place: Ms. Rachel Fernandes and Third Place: Ms. Arya Bhosle.

Live Bait Theatre was divided into three rounds consisting of Preliminary Round, Turn Table and Final Round of Debate. Mr. Mudit Agarwal, Managing Director, Advaitaa Green Energy, Margao – Goa was the judge. There were 14 participants for the events at the preliminary round, of who 10 qualified for the Turn table round. For the turn table round students were given 5 minutes to speak for and against the topic allotted to them on the spot. Two students qualified for the final round – Ms. Rachel Fernandes and Ms. V.V. Sai Vyshnavi. In the finals, conducted on 14th March 2020 the two finalists debated a topic. The judge declared Ms. Rachel Fernandes as the winner of the event.

On the basis of overall performance Ms. Rachel Fernandes was declared Winner of Fin-Splash 1.0 and Finance Student of the Year.

Overall, the students had a very good experience. They could present their knowledge, intelligence and ideas before the audience and suggested that the Department conduct such activities on regular basis for continuous improvement.
