The Department of Management Studies organized a Field visit for the students of SY BBA(FS)to Dharohar: National Museum of Custom & GST on 13th September 2023. The aim of the visit was to make students aware of the contribution of Indirect taxes in building the nation. 64 students and two faculties visited the Museum.
The National Museum of Customs and GST “Dharohar” was inaugurated by the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The students were escorted by an Associate who provided all the information relating to the museum. The museum highlighted the rich history of the Indian Customs and Indirect Taxes Department, its various activities in revenue generation, curbing illicit trade and smuggling and thereby substantially contributing in the economic development. Moreover, an e-catalog of the Museum displayed high-resolution pictures of the various items placed in the museum along with relevant information.
The museum also showcased antique coins, arms, seized artifacts such as stone, handwritten manuscript, sculptures, metal objects, wooden artifacts, ceramics objects, wildlife collection. There were silicon statues displayed which gave us the glimpse of Dandi March, and many famous historical events held in our country. There were different galleries such as History of Taxation, Guardians of our Economic Frontier, Guardians of our Art and Cultural Heritage, Pre-GST and newly added India’s first GST Gallery.
The associate addressed the queries raised by the students. The students found the session very informative and beneficial as they got to know about the basic customs procedures and the journey of making of Goods and Services Tax, the most historic indirect tax reform of New India.
