DEEKSHARAMBH 2022 – Student Induction & Orientation Program

The Department of Computer Science conducted students’ orientation session for the first-year students of BCA &B.Voc.(ST) Programme on 20th July 2022 from 11.30 am till 2.15 pm as a part of the Induction Program “Deeksharambh – 22”. The venue of the session was Hall No. 1 on 5th floor of the College Central Block.

This orientation program was organized with an aim to bring clarity among the First Year Students about the objective of the activities organized by the Department and the College and to inform their role as a student in their academic and overall development.

The Orientation started with the introduction by the compere Ms. Nishigandha Naik, Assistant Professor in Commerce followed by an Invocation Song by Assistant Professor Ms. Rama Borkar. Principal Dr. Prita D. Mallya in her address welcomed the students to Shree Damodar College and mentioned that the College is celebrating the Year 2022-23 as Golden Jubilee Year. She congratulated the students that they have taken right decision by joining this College for BCA and B.Voc.(ST) programme. She stressed upon the need of continuous learning, skill development, and role of discipline in an individual’s life. She mentioned that the Department of Computer Science and the College has collaborated with many institutions and organizations for the benefit of the students and to facilitate add-on courses, training, internships, OJT, placements, workshops, etc. She specifically mentioned that student should attend all lectures, study on regular basis and perform their duties on time. Principal also mentioned that the College and the Department conduct various activities throughout the year for the holistic development of the students and all should actively participate in it.

Vice-Principal Dr. Rodney D’Silva welcomed the students and introduced the Faculty Members and Lab Instructors. He also mentioned that they should feel free in communicating with the department or with any other teacher whenever needed.

Mr. Sumit Kumar, Head of the Department welcomed and briefed the students about the BCA &B.Voc.(Software Technologies) Programmes. He gave a brief insight about the Programme structure, curriculum and its conduct. He mentioned that students should follow all discipline and decorum of the College and attend lectures on-time and on regular basis. He informed the students about on-campus facilities and various medium of communication like WhatsApp group, email, website, social media, etc. He explained the need of skills and ethics in an individual’s life. He concluded his address by mentioning that separate orientation programme will be conducted later-on by various clubs and committees.

The students were apprised about the roles, responsibilities and conduct of activities of various committees and cells of the department and the College by the Department faculty members.

  • Sweta Verenkar informed the students about the various components of examinations and grading pattern for the students of BCA and BVoc(Software Technologies) Programmes.
  • Rajlaxmi Nair highlighted the importance of attendance, campus management system, mentoring, counseling and informed them about various student welfare activities conducted by the College and the Department. She also informed them about “TechTrendz”, the Department’s Technology Club which is a hub of all Tech activities.
  • Internships & Placements in charge, Mr. Sameer Patil informed the students about the internships and the conduct of the campus placements by the college. He also oriented the students about the Annual Placement Fair, Webinars and Workshops being conducted by the College & the Department on regular basis.
  • Rama Borkar oriented the students about the conduct of the extension (eMadhyam) activities, BitBuzz (inter-higher secondary) competition and the College Cultural Council activities.
  • Information about the Certificate Courses, MOOCS courses, student activities conducted by the Department and the College through various clubs and student bodies were listed by Ms. Ankita Naik.
  • Andre Pacheco informed the students about the study tours, field trips, inter-collegiate IT competition – Spectra and the events conducted by the College under IIC and E-Cell.

Ms. Nishigandha Naik proposed the Vote of Thanks. The session concluded with the National Anthem. The program was moderated by Ms. Nishigandha Naik and was attended by 115 first year students and all the faculty members of the Department.
