VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics signed a MoU with COPE: Counselling and Outreach for Peer Empowerment, an Aditya Birla Education trust initiative on 16th February 2024.On 22nd March 2024, COPE community members conducted their first activity. The inaugural programme commenced at 11.30 am with the Welcome address by Prof. Prita D. Mallya, Principal of the College. Mr. MD Fahadullah was announced as the community leader and Ms. Althea Barreto as the Co-leader of COPE. 20 students have signed up as COPE community members.
COPE aim at empowering students with mental health awareness and providing support. The first activity of COPE was a movie screening of “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” which was attended by 67 students and 19 COPE members. The purpose of the movie screening was to create mental health awareness among the students.
The movie revolves around a high school student named Charlie, who faces various mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The movie portrays the struggles and challenges faced by Charlie and the importance of seeking help and support when dealing with mental health issues.
After the movie screening, a discussion was held with the students to get their feedback and to discuss the theme of the movie. The discussion was led by the College Counselor Ms. Eshani Bakhle and encouraged the students to share their thoughts and feelings about the movie. The students were asked about the central theme of movie, emotions of the characters and their takeaway.
The COPE members were praised for their efforts in organizing the event and for their commitment to promoting mental health awareness among the students. The programme ended at 1.30pm.
