The Department of Commerce and Management organized a Community Outreach Programme for the students of Guardian Angel Higher Secondary School- Curchorem on 25th February 2019. The programme was held in the Guardian Angel School Hall, from 2:00-4.00 pm and was attended by 130 students of Commerce and Arts stream. Three students of first year B.com. Participated in the same. The programme was divided in three sessions.
The first session was on the topic Career Planning and Preparing for Competitive Exams. This session was delivered by Ms. Marjina Shaikh, Assistant Professor in Commerce and Management. In this session topics like Overview of Competitive Exams in India, Career options for Commerce graduates, Different Competitive Exams for Commerce and Arts students, Basic Structure and Syllabus of Competitive Exams and the Tips for success in Competitive Exam were Covered. The session was delivered in the form of a PowerPoint presentation with the help of some videos and it ended with a Quiz on Quantitative Aptitude.
The second session was on the topic Basics of Goods and Service Tax, Ms. Lancia Mascarenhas, a student of First Year B.Com started the presentation. She spoke about the meaning, features, advantages and disadvantages of GST. Ms. Saburi Zuvatkar presented on the components of GST, she also addressed the gathering on the functioning of GST and further Mr. Keagan Silveira continued the presentation on Input tax credit and set off heads under GST. He also stated examples of goods with different tax rates and nil rated exempted goods.
The Third session was on Importance of Savings at an early Age in which Mr. Keagan stressed on the saving habits in the youths and the benefits of savings with several examples. The students of the high school were very interactive and they actively participated in the sessions.
