Bridge Course ” Basics of Mathematics “

Department of Mathematics and Statistics organised a one-week Bridge Course on “Basics of Mathematics” from 7th to 13th October 2021 for all the first-year students of B. Com, BBA(FS), BCA, B.Voc.(ST). The objective of the course was to provide adequate foundation in Mathematics which is a prerequisite for learning Mathematics in higher education and to bridge the gap between Math learnt in schools and the Math to be learnt in college.

233 students registered for the course. Each day a session of one hour was conducted from 5p.m to 6.pm through Microsoft Teams.

Resource Persons were Mrs Shankari Pai Fondekar and Ms Yugandhara Joshi, Assistant Professors in Mathematics and Statistics. Topics covered during each session were as follows.

Day 1: 7/10/21 Fractions, LCM, Divisibility Tests

Day 2: 8/10/21 Indices & Surds, Laws.

Day 3: 9/10/21 Ratio and Proportion.

Day 4: 11/10/21 Binomial Theorem and Mathematical identities.

Day 5: 12/10/21 Theory of Equations.

Day 6: 13/10/21 Averages, Percentages.

Students attended each session and clarified their doubts. The bridge course helped the students in learning basic concepts in Mathematics and therefore resulted in building up their confidence.
