The Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Goa organized Master Class Series VII on 23rd January 2020 at 3:15 PM at Multipurpose Hall, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, Panaji Goa. The session was attended by Mrs. Anjali Sajilal and Mrs. Surekha Patil. This session was delivered by Prof. Pradeep B. Deshpande, Professor Emeritus and Former Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Louisville and President and CEO of Six Sigma and Advanced Controls, Inc.
The theme of the session was How Higher Education can contribute to National Transformation. Dr. Deshpande mentioned in his presentation that Science is the appropriate body of knowledge to use when the fundamentals of the system under scrutiny are well understood. Six sigma is the appropriate methodology to use when the fundamentals of the system are not well understood. He further discussed about positive emotions and negative emotions. He said that everyone has the capacity to change. The ability to change can be taught or learned but the desire to change is a choice. So we can overcome negative emotions if we desire to change. Science demands that the results of experiments are repeatable and reproducible. If we do anything consistently and repeatedly we can overcome negative emotions and change our youth to think in a positive way in their life. He gave examples of Mumbai Dabbawalas and Pandharpur Varkaris with his personal interaction with them. What he found common in both was the devotion towards their work, and desire to reach the goal.
