Workshop on Secondary Analysis

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce organised a ‘Workshop on Secondary Analysis’ on 4th and 5th March 2020, from 10.00 am -12.15 pm. Dr. Vishal Chari, Asst. Prof. in Economics was the Resource Person. The aim of the workshop was to introduce students to Gretl software and the various tools and techniques for secondary data analysis which would help them in research.

On Day 1, Dr. Vishal Chari began the session by explaining the Parametric and Non-Parametric tests and focused on the different types of tests be used for Parametric and Non-Parametric statistical testing

Parametric Tests: Independent Sample T-Test, Paired sample t-Test and One- way ANOVA

Non-Parametric Tests: T-Test and F-Test

Hypothesis testing was explained with the concepts of Type I and Type II errors and confidence and significance levels. The next topic was a detailed explanation of 3 types of data used in research, viz. Cross-sectional data,  Time Series data and Panel data. Students were also briefed about SPSS software.

Day 2 began with explanations of Regression analysis. A Regression Model was shown using sample data sets in Gretl and also interpretation of data was taught to the students. Dr. Chari also explained about the different problems associated with time-series and cross-sectional data.

At the end of the session the queries put forward by the students were discussed. Ms. Abigale Rodrigues, student of M.Com Part II, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
