Community Outreach Programme

The BBA(FS) department and Internal Quality Assurance Cell  of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics,  in association with Amhi Udyogini Pratisthan, Mahila Mandal, Margao, organized a Community Outreach Programme for  Women at Vimlabai Kare Hall, Comba, on January 18, 2020 from 3.30 to 6.00 p.m. This Programme, called “Financial Literacy for Women”, was an initiative taken to provide financial education to the members of Women Self Help Groups in and around Comba area. 48 ladies from various SHGs participated. The College has been conducting this immensely popular programme for the past three years.

Mr. Mayuresh Adsul, Assistant Professor, welcomed everyone and introduced the Resource Person. The programme was conducted in two sessions. The Resource Persons were Mr. Amey Karmali, CEO, CIBA- Verna and Ms. Prashma Nadkarni, Inter Final CA for the first and second sessions respectively.

Mr. Amey Karmali addressed the gathering on How to select & finalize a business idea. He expressed his views on how to tap an opportunity, turn it into a business venture and focus on its growth and sustainability. He made the session very interactive by giving real life examples from the audience itself. Mr. Amey also highlighted on the role played by CIBA in nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit and incubating the innovative ideas. He also mentioned his contribution towards entrepreneurship development through CIBA and Fr. Agnel Technical Institute in the state of Goa.

The second session was conducted by Ms. Prashma Nadkarni who is an alumnus of the College. She spoke on the topic “Basics of Book-Keeping and Audit for Self Help Groups”. Ms. Prashma started the session by providing valuable insights into maintenance of book of accounts by Self Help Groups. She also focused on the importance of maintaining books of accounts for better decision making.

The audience requested that Ms. Prashma should conduct similar sessions in the future as well, since she explained accounting concepts in a simple manner. The sessions were very interactive and interesting to the audience and they will indeed act as a catalyst in enhancing entrepreneurial spirit among the audience.
