One-day National Workshop on “Development of Accessible Library for Persons with Disabilities

The Resource Centre for Inclusion Education (RCIE), Barr. Balasaheb Khardekar Knowledge Resource Centre and Department of Library Science, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, jointly organized a one-day National Workshop on “Development of Accessible Library for Persons with Disabilities” on 8th January 2020.

 

Four technical sessions were conducted namely: “Resource Centres for PWDs” by Mr Dhananjay Bhole, “Read your way” by Ms Zainab Chinikamwala, “Library Services for PWDs in USA” by Dr Sara Duvall; “RCIE Centre Services – an Overview”, by Dr Namita Khot. There was also an open forum of affiliated College Librarians as per Maharastra Public Library Act 2016.

 

58 delegates attended the Workshop. The objective of the Workshop was to share ideas on how to provide equal educational opportunities for all disabled students, to bring the visually impaired students in the mainstream of higher education and build their capabilities for employment. The topics which were covered in the workshop were Braille books, Audiobooks, Computers with screen reading software like JAWS, Daisey, low vision devices, Library support services with braille books.

 

After the workshop, all the delegates were shown the newly developed space in the Library for Persons with disabilities.
