NSS Annual Special Camp 2019

The NSS Annual Special Camp 2019 of the College NSS Unit was organised at Shri ShantadurgaChamundeshwarKudtariMahamayaSaunsthanGhudoAvedemQuepem – Goa from 4th to 10th November, 2019. The following activities were conducted during these 7 days.

 

Day 1 – 4th November 2019

A group of 24 NSS Volunteers and 4 Program officers reached the camp site. The volunteers cleaned their rooms and temple premises in the evening.

Day 2 – 5th November 2019

The day started with a morning walk and warm up exercises. The Inaugural function was held at the temple hall at 10.30 a.m. The Sarpanch of Avedem Panchayat, Mr Roque Alleluia Alfonso was invited as the Chief Guest for the function and the Vice Principal of the College, Dr. Rodney D’Silva was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Rodney D’Silva delivered the welcome address. The NSS Chief Program officer Ms. Sharmila Kunde briefed the students about various activities which were planned for the camp. The Chief Guest spoke about some of the initiatives of the Government such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and requested everyone to participate wholeheartedly in its implementation. He also familiarised the students with the village and extended his full cooperation and support for the activities that would be carried out in the village.

In the evening there was a session delivered by Mr. Shrikant Madar, Asst. Professor in Economics. He spoke on  various government schemes and also explained to the students methods of  conducting  a survey.

Day 3 – 6th Nov 2019

The day started with a morning walk and warm up exercises. This was followed by a Household Survey in the locality of Avedem Quepem. The students visited the households, got the survey forms filled and created awareness about the various schemes provided by the Government. They also interacted with the locals to know their issues and problems they are facing. In the afternoon, a session on “Motivation and leadership” was conducted by Mr. Kennedy, former Principal of Don Bosco College, Panjim. In his session, he shared his life experiences when he went on hikes and other adventure-based activities. He encouraged the students and made them believe that even a single individual can make a difference and that they can achieve whatever they dream.

Day 4 – 7th Nov 2019

A health checkup camp was organised in association with JCI Coastal Salcette and Lions Club of Canacona. The Sarpanch of Avedem panchayat spoke a few words and inaugurated the health camp. Mr. Adrian Torres, President of Lions Club of Canacona introduced the officials of the clubs to the Program Officers of the College present. Dr. Sonal Sawant was the Medical Officer present at the function. A free general health and Diabetes checkup was provided to about 42 participants which included villagers of the locality and the NSS Volunteers and teachers.

In the afternoon, a session on team building was organised by Ms. Ashwini Yadav, a national level motivational trainer associated with the JCI and Legal Advisor for the Navy. She discussed the significance of team buildingwith the volunteers and the same was demonstrated in the form of team games. It was a very enriching and fruitful session.

Day 5 – 8th November 2019

In view of the imposition of Section 144, the activities planned for this day were cancelled.

Day 6 – 9th November 2019

The Director of Physical Education and Sports, Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, conducted a session on health and fitness and stressed the importance of eating a healthy and balanced diet. He discussed various types of diets that one can follow and tips to stay fit and healthy were given. The Valedictory programme was organized in the evening. Ms. Anjali Sajilal, Principal In-charge and Dr. Vishal Chari, Member, NSS Advisory Committee, Goa University were present for the function. This was followed by a cultural program and campfire.

Day 7- 10th November 2019

The NSS volunteers cleaned the temple premises and their rooms and returned on the same day
