A guest lecture was organised by Ms. Ruchira Naik (Asst. Prof in Business Law) for students of SY B.Com on 28th August 2019 on the topic “Consumer Grievance Redressal Machinery & Consumer Rights”.
Adv. Jagdish Prabhudesai was invited as the guest speaker. He is the former President, South Goa District Consumer Forum at Margao Goa. He is also a visiting professor for LL.M. at Goa University and other Universities. He is also a practising advocate at the High Court and is connected with various educational and cultural organisations in the State of Goa.
The session started with a brief introduction of the guest. The guest speaker spoke elaborately on various aspects related to a consumer, he explained the basic concepts, the evolution of Consumer Protection Act 1986, scenario of consumer courts in different states in India, how consumers can be exploited. He stressed on what are consumers’ rights and how consumers can enforce these rights by approaching different consumer courts with different pecuniary jurisdictions.
The students listened to the speaker patiently and attentively and enjoyed the session. 31 students attended the session, which ended with the vote of thanks proposed by a student Ms. Nidhi Shah of SY B.Com ‘B’.
