National Librarian Day

VVMs Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Comba, Margao, Goa celebrated National Librarians Day on 27th August, 2019. The newly formed Readers’ Club of the College was inaugurated on this occasion. The chief guest for the function was Dr. V. Gopakumar, Librarian, Goa University. The function began with the welcome address by the Principal Dr. Prita D. Mallya, who emphasized that every College must have a Readers’ Club so as to encourage reading amongst students. After lighting the traditional lamp, portrait of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, who is regarded as father of library movement in India, was garlanded by the Dignitaries.

The Readers’ club was inaugurated at the hands of the chief guest Dr V. Gopakumar, by opening the book exhibition on the theme ‘Power of positive thoughts’. The convenor of the Readers’ club Asst. Professor, Ms. Samiksha Vengurlekar briefly highlighted the activities of the club. The limelight of the event was the book launch “Ardh Litre Batlen Don Litre Udak” a Konkani play written by Ms. Dyanada Prabhudessai, an aspiring writer, who is a student of the College. In her speech, Ms. Dyanada inspired students to start writing. The chief guest in his speech said that reading is the only exercise which allows us to enjoy our solitude and restores our peace of mind. It helps us gain knowledge and wisdom. He oriented students on the topic ‘Joy of Reading’ and ‘Web Resources’ wherein he shared links of different free online resources and references which are available at a click which students as well as faculty members will find it useful in their academics.

Vice Principal Dr Rodney D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks. The function ended with the National Anthem.
