The Department of Commerce & Management of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, JCI Salcete Coastal and Lions Club of Canacona, in association with the Income Tax Department organized a State Level Workshop on Practical Aspects of E-Filing of Income Tax Returns for Individuals on 26th August from 10 am to 1 pm.
Speaking at the inaugural of the State Level Workshop, Dr. Prita D. Mallya, Principal of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics highlighted the need for such workshops to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Mr. Adrian Torres, President of Lions Club of Canacona highlighted the need to equip individuals with the ability to e-file their own income tax returns in the digital era.
The resource persons for the session were Income Tax Officers Mrs. Vidya Tengse, Mrs. Neeta Mangeshkar and Asst. Professor Mr. Ainsley Bernard. Mrs. Vidya Tengse gave an overview of The Income Tax Act and briefly explained the various provisions of Income Tax. She also discussed the due dates for filing Income Tax returns along with the ITR forms to be used based on the nature of income. Mr. Ainsley Bernard conducted a session on Tax Planning and the various deductions available to assessees to reduce their tax. He also spoke about the various amendments in The Income Tax Act as per Budget 2019 and its impact on tax computation. Mrs. Neeta Mangeshkar gave a demo on how to register on the Income Tax website and also the e-filing process.
After the workshop, Mr. Ainsley Bernard conducted a one-on-one mentoring session to guide those interested in filing their Income Tax Returns for the Assessment Year 2019-20. More than 200 participants attended the workshop including students and faculty members from six colleges across Goa as well as members of the general public.
