The Students’ Council along with the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics organized an inter-class and staff X-country Race on 24 August 2019. The Run is organized every year to celebrate National Sports Day, which is celebrated throughout India on 29th August each year.
Mr. Nativity Colaco – alumnus of the College and an outstanding athlete, who has represented Goa as well as India, was the Chief Guest for the function which was flagged off by the Principal, Dr. Prita D. Mallya. Vice-Principal Dr. Rodney D’Silva introduced the Chief Guest while Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, Director of Physical Education and Sports gave an introduction of Sports Day and the event. The Chief Guest congratulated all the participants for taking part in the event – he stressed the importance of physical fitness. The Chief Guest gave away prizes to all the winners. The event concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Emilia Silveira (Sports General Secretary), followed by the National Anthem.
115 participants took part in the event, of whom 65 were boys and 38 were girls in the Student category, while 12 were staff members. The distance for the race was 6 km for Boys and 4 km for Girls and staff.
- In the Men’s category Mr. Amrut Viridikar from TY BCA secured First place, Mr. Juvot Costa of TYBCOM-A Secured Second place and Mr. Muktiar Shaikh from FYBCOM A secured 3rd place
- In the Women’s category Ms. Sonal Gaonkar of M.Com–I secured first place, Ms. Jenica Gomes of M.Com-I secured second place and Roshni Khatur secured third place
- In the staff section Mr. Sarvesh Gaude secured the first place, Mr. Ashok Naik second place and Asst. Prof. Ms. Mamta Kumari secured third place.
The overall Team Championship was won by TYBCA, while TYBCOM-B were declared Runners-up in the Men’s section. In the Women’s section, the team championship was won by M.Com-II, and M.Com-I were declared Runners-up.
The winners were awarded with trophies, certificates and medals.
