Vidya Vikas Mandal held its 48th Founders’ Day Celebration on August 01, 2019 at the Ganesh Daivajna Auditorium, Shree Damodar Educational Campus, Margao Goa. Founders’ Day 2019 was organized by Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics.
The Chief Guest for the function was Shri. Mayur J. Vora, Director, Mapro Foods. Shri. Mayur Vora is an alumnus of Fergusson College Pune, IIM Bangalore and INSEAD. He belongs to a class of entrepreneurs that believes in community development and inclusive growth, which finds expression in his company’s ideology.
The function commenced with an invocation song followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Chief Guest, the founder members and other dignitaries. In her welcome address, CA Smt. Sheela Gaunekar President, Vidya Vikas Mandal spoke about the phenomenal growth of Vidya Vikas Mandal, which the founders had not foreseen; their only aim at that time was to set up a College of Commerce in South Goa. The First Vice-President, Mr. Nitin Kunkolienker spoke about all the institutions and their strengths and outlined the plans that Vidya Vikas Mandal has for them. He thanked all the staff of the institutions for their contribution towards the progress of their institutions.
There was a short presentation on the history of the institutions and their outstanding achievements during the previous year, for the benefit of the Chief Guest.
On this auspicious day, five alumni of Vidya Vikas Mandal’s institutions were felicitated for their remarkable achievements and contributions to society. The alumni are Shri Sandesh Prabhudesai, Smt. Deepali Naik and Shri Silvano Fernandes from Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics and Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira and Shri Ajit Panchwadkar from G R Kare College of Law. Retired staff members – Smt. Lydia Menon, Smt. Nirmala Gopinathan, Smt. Shilpa Mense and Shri Satyavan Prabhu from Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics and Shri Inacio Dias and Smt. Sandhya Pai Fondekar from G R Kare College of Law. Dr. Maithili S. Naik from Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics was also felicitated for acquiring her doctoral degree.
In his address, Shri. Vora congratulated the awardees and founder members, and stressed the need for imparting wider and relevant education so that students are prepared for the constantly changing scenarios in the job market. In such a scenario, it is important that students should learn ‘how to learn’. He said, “Not the intelligence but the lack of opportunities” leads to untapped talents. He also encouraged the audience to take part in social work for the betterment of humanity at large.
Shri. Vinayak G Angle, Member, Board of Management, Vidya Vikas Mandal proposed the vote of thanks. The function concluded with the National Anthem.
