On the occasion of International Women’s Day i.e. 8th March 2019, the Women’s Cell and the Internal Complaints Committee(ICC) organised various programs.
The day began with an outreach activity by the students of SY and TY B.Com. The students visited Aquem Baixo Village Panchayat to be a part of their Women’s Day celebration and performed a skit on the topic ‘Sexual harassment at different places’. Further a mime on the topic ‘Gender Issues’ was also performed. These two performances were pertaining to gender issues and were presented before the villagers to sensitise them about the same, thereby spreading awareness on social issues pertaining to women and women empowerment.
The same Skit and Mime were also performed in the College before the Principal, faculty members and the students in the Multipurpose hall. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs. Chitra Shirvaikar e Afonso, lecturer at St. Alex Higher Secondary School and alumnus of the College. She is a well-known tiartrist and a singer. She inspired the crowd with her words of wisdom. She narrated her past memories of her times wherein how from a Hindu home, she managed to reach the tiatr stage with tremendous support from her parents despite a lot of discouragement from others.
Two budding poetesses of the College – Ms. Mruga Naik and Ms. Dnyanada Prabhudessai – recited their poems that gave the message of women empowerment and the changing role of women in the world today.
A Poster competition was held on the theme “The Woman of my Dreams”. A total of ten 2-member teams participated, thus making 20 students. The winners of the competition were:
First place – Danali Mascarenhas & Rowan Ferrao
Second place – Anslem Colaco & Megan Fernandes
Third Place – Runal Thakur & Yakshita Vengurlekar
The main objective of this celebration was to create awareness about the gender and related issues differently as well as humorously.
