Workshop On Entrepreneurship Building For Women

The Department of Economics & Banking in association with Aamhi Udyogini Pratisthan, Margao Branch organised a one-day workshop on the topic Entrepreneurship Building for Women on the 20th of February 2019 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Mahila Mandal Hall, Comba. The Convenor of the workshop was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lira Gama, Head of the Department of Economics & Banking and the organizing secretaries were Asst. Prof. Averyl Pires and Ms. Ranjita Pai, President of Mahila Mandal, Margao Branch.

The objectives of this workshop were to instil entrepreneurship skills among women, promote self-employment and make them self-reliant. The workshop started with the inaugural where the purpose of the workshop was introduced by Asst. Prof. Averyl Pires. This was followed by the welcome address of Ms. Ranjita Pai.

The first session was on the topic “Government schemes for entrepreneurs” by Mr. Sudip Faldessai, Project Officer, Goa Innovation Council from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. Mr. Sudip explained the meaning of entrepreneurship, introduction to startups, opportunities for women entrepreneurs in India, role of Goa State Innovation Council, process of virtual innovation register and about various Government support schemes and policies. The resource person also explained the various categories of women entrepreneurs and the various business opportunities for them. He explained the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMGP) and the Chief Minister Rozgar Yojana (CMRY) in detail – the eligibility criteria, loan assistance, means of finance, rate of interest, subsidy, repayment and the procedure to apply for these schemes.

The second session was on the topic “Procedure to actualise business through NSIC schemes” by Mr. Abhijit Baruah, Chief Manager, National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC) from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. Mr. Abhijit explained about free B2B online portal registration facility for owned MSME units. B2B is an Online Web Portal/Infomediary service of NSIC and is a one-stop, one-window bouquet of aids that will provide information on business, technology and finance, and also exhibit the core competence of Indian SMEs. He explained how MSME units can design their customized web page and share it on B2B, Facebook, Twitter, E-mail etc. and market their products/services. Units can buy and sell their products online and also get trade leads and inquiries, ultimately helping their business to grow manifold. The B2B Membership benefits to MSME units and the documentation required for the same was explained. Also, registration forms were distributed among the women entrepreneurs.

The workshop was attended by a total of 18 women entrepreneurs. The sessions were interactive. The women entrepreneurs were very enthusiastic and raised queries about the various schemes, the procedure to apply and also shared their experiences while applying for Government schemes.
