The NSS Inaugural function of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao for the academic year 2018-19 was held on 16th July 2018. In her welcome address, Principal Dr Prita Mallya expressed her expectations from NSS volunteers. She urged the volunteers to follow the NSS motto and to use their privileged status to help other less fortunate sections. Dr Sanjay Dessai, Vice Principal, appealed to the volunteers to make best use of the NSS platform to develop their personalities. Dr. Vishal Chari NSS Program In-charge, presented the list of NSS activities for the academic year 2018-19.
The Chief Guest for the function was Dr. Babita Angle Prabhudessai, Chairperson, Margao Municipal Council. In her address, she focused on the destructive nature of the over-use of mobile phones and how it can affect student community. She spoke about ‘Selfitis’ which is a genuine mental condition and people who feel compelled to continually post pictures of themselves on social media may need help from trained psychologists. She also emphasized on awareness about segregation and cleanliness and requested NSS volunteers to collaborate with Margao Municipal council for creating awareness.
Ms. Sharmila Kunde NSS Program Officer proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Mamta Kumari and Mr Ainsley Bernard NSS Program Officers coordinated the function. The function was attended by college staff members and 186 student volunteers. The programme commenced at 12 noon and concluded at 1.00 pm with the national anthem.
NSS Tree Plantation
Tree plantation activity was held in college campus in the presence of ex-Chief Minister and MLA of Margao Shri Digamber Kamat on 16th July 2018 at 11.00 am. Various fruit bearing saplings were planted in college garden by the MLA, Principal of the college Dr Prita Mallya, NSS Program officers and NSS volunteers.
