“GANDHIJI-THE MAHATMA” Essay-cum-Presentation Competition

The Cultural Council of the College organized “Gandhiji-The Mahatma”, an essay cum presentation competition on Martyrs’ Day for the fourth successful year. Understanding the futility and the chaos and destruction that revenge can cause, is the need of the hour in our society. Keeping this in mind, the theme for this year’s competition was “An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind”. The participants expressed their opinions on Gandhiji’s principles of non-violence and stressed upon the need to bring about a change in oneself before aiming to change the world. Avlon Gonsalves and Johann da’ Silva from S.S. Dempo College stood third, Anusha Almeida from V. M. Salgaoncar college of Law stood second. Her passionate views on the problems with capital punishment and the consequences of “Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth” were well thought out and impressive. Kimberly Fernandes and Iram Shaikh of Rosary College of Arts & Commerce won the competition and took home the rolling trophy for the year. Their paper stressed how, over the years, our society has become revenge-driven, and consequently fallen prey to many destructive elements. The competition was an opportunity for productive thought through the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. This competition was organized by Ms. Prachi Kolamkar and Ms Gauravi Keni.
